Not out of the woods yet

I love painting trees, and this particular tree has fascinated me so much that I have felt obliged to paint it seven times! The seven paintings are not all the same, but very similar. The tree has proved to be popular with buyers too, and I have sold five of them so far.

Purple Tree

Purple Tree

This one, ‘Purple Tree’, which was the first one I painted, is hanging up in St Tropez (OK – I am name dropping that one). It is 73cm x 68cm framed, and it was painted in gouache on card. I use this image on the home page of my website.

Lothlorien

Lothlorien

The next one ‘Lothlorien’ was quite similar in colours and size, but was done in watercolour and biro pen. Despite lots of compliments, this one has remained unsold so far. I must try to persuade a gallery to exhibit it…

The Tree

The Tree

This one ‘The Tree’ (imaginative title that one) is the biggest at 1 metre square in size. It is painted in acrylic on box canvas, and was snapped up after showing in an Edinburgh gallery. It was actually part of two images – the other one (of different trees) sold separately.

The Red Ball

The Red Ball

After seeing the last one in a gallery, a buyer commissioned me to do a similar one for his wife as a present. He wanted the tree, but also wanted his dogs in the picture. Fortunately he was happy with the result – ‘The Red Ball’. This one is framed behind glass.

One Two Tree

One Two Tree

This version ‘One Two Tree’ (clearly I can’t count) is slightly away from the styles I normally do, but someone liked it enough to buy it…

Tree Four

Tree Four

I just thought, why not do another one and see if anyone likes it. ‘Tree Four’ is also 1 metre square and is acrylic on box canvas. It sold to an avid art collector, and it is now displayed along with paintings by Bellany, the Scottish colourists, Alberto Morrocco and a few other renowned artists. Very chuffed I am!

The Faraway Tree

The Faraway Tree

The latest one ‘Faraway Tree’ – well why not? Not quite finished yet. Hoping it will prove to be as saleable as the others. Fingers crossed.

I wonder if I will do any more of that same tree…
